Corton Grand Cru Clos du Roi 2017 holds a unique place in the Domaine Chandon de Briailles range. On this Aloxe-Corton hilltop, the old vines plunge their roots into slightly sandy clay-limestone marl, giving rise to the deepest and most structured expression of the estate.
The 2017 vintage admirably combines power and refinement. The fruit oscillates between black cherry, wild blackberry, and ripe red berries, before revealing notes of sweet spices, liquorice, and undergrowth. The body is dense without ever losing its balance. The tannins, of great finesse, accompany a mineral framework that lengthens the wine with remarkable serenity.
Cultivated biodynamically, the 40 to 60-year-old vines naturally yield low harvests and exceptional concentration. True to the estate's philosophy, aging in barrels, with a very limited proportion of new wood, preserves the full personality of the terroir.
A truly great terroir-driven Corton, built to last for decades, which will gain even more complexity after a few years in the cellar.
