Some parcels carry such a strong history that they seem to dictate their destiny. Vignes aux Dames is one of them.
In this discreet place in Château-Chalon, the old Savagnin vines, over seventy years old, would naturally have found their place in a great Vin Jaune. However, François Rousset-Martin chose another interpretation. For thirty months, he aged the wine in ouillé, convinced that this terroir could express an equally fascinating depth without going through the veil.
The 2021 vintage is striking for its balance. Citrus, dried fruits, fresh herbs, and delicate honeyed notes intertwine in a texture of great finesse. The more the wine opens up, the more it gains in complexity, without ever losing the tension that keeps it moving.
Vignes aux Dames is a wine with relief. A Savagnin that never seeks to show off, but rather lets the place speak with a rare obviousness.
