Domaine Aussigouins

There are hillsides that seem to have been created for Chenin. Les Aussiguoins is one of them. In Rablay-sur-Layon, just a few hundred meters from Montbenault, this vein of schist, traversed by volcanic rocks, produces wines where richness never obscures movement. Here, power is expressed with restraint. The wine progresses silently, carried by a tension that seems to emanate from the soil itself.

When Marie-Claude and Dominique Dufour took over the family farm in 2013, they weren't trying to build an estate. They simply chose to listen to this parcel, planted in the 1980s, in the locality called Les Aussiguoins. One hectare forty of old vines, shared for a time with Kenji and Maï Hodgson, before regaining its unity a few years later.

From the very first vintage, one thing became clear. Experto...R possesses that rare ability to fade behind its terroir. Nothing about it seems ostentatious. The aging fades into the background, the fruit never dominates, and yet the wine establishes itself durably. A fine texture, a chalky energy, a saline finish that prolongs the tasting experience.

There is only one cuvée at Domaine Aussiguoins. One single vineyard. One single landscape. And sometimes, that's all it takes to remind us that the greatest Chenins aren't trying to impress. They are simply trying to endure.
