Vent d’Ange 2019 immediately showcases what sets Thomas Pico's wines apart: maturity never overshadows tension.
2019 was a sunny vintage in Chablis, and the wine naturally bears its mark. The Chardonnay is ripe, generous, with aromas of citrus, apple, and fresh almond. But at Pattes Loup, this richness is always tempered by the soil. The palate gradually tightens, bitterness emerges, and the limestone imparts a chalky sensation that carries through to the finish.
Time has begun to work its magic today. The fruit has developed a patina, the texture has integrated, and deeper nuances of ripe lemon, almond, and wet stone appear with aeration.
This is where Vent d’Ange becomes particularly interesting: the wine starts with fruit maturity and finishes with limestone.
A profound, saline, and already complex Chablis 2019, yet still imbued with remarkable energy.
